OREGON CITY, Ore. – Sophomore Oliver Rudnicki lead the Whitworth University men's golf team to second place in the first round of the Northwest Conference Fall Classic at Stone Creek Golf Club in Oregon City on Saturday.
Rudnicki finished one-over-par on the par-72 course to tie with Willamette's Jacob Armelino and Puget Sound's Matt Kitto for third place in the player standings. Sophomore Andrew Dodge and senior Jesse Salzwedel join Rudnicki in the top 10, as both men are tied for 10th place after matching rounds of four-over-par scores of 76. Senior Stephen Plopper shot 77 to tie for 14th place, while sophomore Tyler McQuilkin's round of 80 puts him in a tie for 25th in the player standings.
The men posted a team score of 302 on Saturday and are two strokes ahead of Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound heading into the final round of play on Sunday.
Willamette's Ryan Kukula shot 67, a five-under-par score, in the opening round and leads the 43 player field by five strokes. Willamette's Chase Lamothe turned in a par-72 score for second place.
Willamette holds a 15-stroke lead over the nine-team field, posting a team score of 287 in the opening round. Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound are tied for third place, trailing second-place Whitworth by two strokes with scores of 304. Linfield is in fifth with a score of 314. Lewis & Clark shot a 323 for sixth place while Pacific (Ore.) is in seventh with a score of 327. George Fox holds the eighth team place with a score of 334 and Whitman is in ninth place with a score of 335.
Whitworth will begin the final day of the Northwest Conference Fall Classic tomorrow at Stone Creek Golf Course with a 9:00 a.m. tee time.
