Men's Golf To Close Out Fall Season With NWC Fall Classic

The men's golf team wraps up the fall portion of its schedule at the two-day Northwest Conference Fall Classic, hosted by Pacific (Ore.), starting Saturday, October 27th.

The men's and women's teams will tee-off at 8:30 am on Saturday and Sunday at the Tri Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield, Wash.

2012 Fall Season Review: In three tournaments this fall, the Bucs have finished first, second and third. In a fourth tournament, Whitworth took two teams, one of which finished fifth and the other finished sixth.

At the Lewiston Triangular, the Bucs finished six strokes behind Lewis-Clark State College, shooting 290 for second place.  Junior Jesse Salzwedel shot a 68 and finished one stroke behind LCSC's Rylee Iacolucci for second place.

Whitworth took two teams to the North Idaho College Invitational, where team two finished fifth and team one finished sixth. Freshman Oliver Rudnicki led the Bucs with a score of 222 to tie for sixth place, while his twin brother, freshman Lyle Rudnicki, shot a 225 to tie for 10th place. Two other freshmen, Stephen Thoen and Samson Martinez, also finished in the top 16.

At the Whitman Invitational, the Bucs shot a two-day team score of 576, which beat out the lowest team score of 581 from the 2005 NWC Fall Classic by five strokes.  Freshman Lyle Rudnicki matched his first round score of 69 with another round of 69 on Sunday to finish in first place at six-under par.

Despite less than ideal weather conditions, Whitworth lowered its team score enough during the second round of the PLU Invite to tie with Whitman College for third place. Oliver Rudnicki finished the two rounds with a score of 149, which tied him with PLU's Auston Hilkin for third place, while freshman Tyler McQuilkin shot a 155 to tie for 14th place.

2011 NWC Fall Classic: The men's team shot 302 on the second day of competition, which was the second-best team score of the day for a two-day total of 614. The Pirates finished fourth in the team standings. Puget Sound took first with a team score of 593. Linfield (606) and Whitman (612) finished second and third, respectively.

Individually, Jesse Salzwedel tied Whitman's Scott Martin for third with a score of 148. PLU's Dustin Hegge took first, finishing with an even-par score of 144. Jeff Aly scored 156 to tie for 17th place, while Christian Boudreau and Saul Martinez shot matching 158s to tie for 22nd. Stephen Plopper tied for 26th with a score of 161.
