Men's Golf Ties For Third At PLU Invite

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's golf team moved up one place after the second round to tie Whitman College for third place at the PLU Invite at Chambers Bay golf course on Monday.

Whitworth was fourth in the standings after the first round on Sunday, with a team score of 313, 25-over-par on the 6,583 yard, par 72 course. The Pirates rebounded from a rainy and windy first round to lower the team score to 311 on Monday and finish with an overall score of 624 that tied them with the Missionaries.

In the first round, freshman Oliver Rudnicki led the Pirates, tied for third with PLU's Dustin Hegge and Auston Hilkin with a two-over-par score of 74. Rudnicki finished with a five-over par score of 149 to tie Pacific Lutheran's Hilkin for third place. Freshman Tyler McQuilkin tied PLU's Sevryn Modahl for 14th place with a score of 155.

Junior Stephen Plopper was part of a five-way tie for 18th with a score of 162. Senior Christian Boudreau tied for 29th place with a score of 159 and freshman Lyle Rudnicki tied for 35th with a 167.

Host school PLU finished 13 strokes ahead of Puget Sound to take first place with a team score of 595. Puget Sound's Adam Bean shot 73 in the first round and 70 in the second round to earn medalist honors, finishing one-under par.

Whitworth returns to action at the Northwest Conference Classic at Tri Mountain golf course on October 27th and 28th. The team will tee-off at 8:30 a.m. on the 27th.
