WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Freshman Lyle Rudnicki had a pair of 69 scores that led the Whitworth men's golf team to a first place finish at the Whitman Invitational at Wine Valley Golf Club this weekend.
The men's team had one of its lowest two-day tournament scores and finished with a score of 576, which was even with par and 10 strokes ahead of second place Puget Sound. Pacific Lutheran and Whitman tied for third with scores of 591. Linfield took fifth with a 592; Willamette had a 613 for sixth place. George Fox (639) and Lewis & Clark (662) rounded out bottom of the eight teams.
Lyle Rudniki finished six-under-par to lead the 47 golfers. He was three strokes ahead of George Fox's Chris Lumsden, who finished in second place with a score of 141. All of the Whitworth golfers finished in the top 26. Freshman Oliver Rudnicki tied with PLU's Justin Lee for eighth place with scores of 145. Freshman Samson Martinez tied with Linfield's Taylor Klopp for tenth place with scores of 146. Junior Stephen Plopper finished 14th with a score of 148, while freshman Stephen Thoen was part of a four-way tie for 19th with a score of 151. Junior Joey DeGroff finished 26th with a score of 154.
The Pirates have a weekend off before returning to action at the PLU Invitational on October 14th and 15th at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
