Freshmen Lead Pirates To Fifth, Sixth Place Finishes
HAYDEN, Idaho – The Whitworth men's golf team took fifth and sixth place at the North Idaho College Invitational over the weekend. The teams wrapped up the two-day tournament today, but the women's final scores are not yet available.
Whitworth split its golfers into two teams for the competition. Team one finished sixth overall with a two-day score of 916 while team two finished fifth with a score of 911.
Freshman Oliver Rudnicki shot 70 in the third round and finished the tournament tied with North Idaho College's Brennan Stillinger for sixth place with a score of 222 to lead Whitworth's team two. Freshman Stephen Thoen finished tied with Lewis-Clark State's Rylee Iacolucci for 12th place with a 226.
Freshman Lyle Rudnicki led the Pirates' team one with a score of 225, which had him tied with North Idaho College's Calvin Baty for 10th place. Freshman Samson Martinez finished 16th with a score of 228.
The Community Colleges of Spokane took first place with a score of 883. Cole Lorenzo, from CC of Spokane, shot a 66 in the first round and finished with a two-day score of 211 to lead the competitors.
Next up, the men's team will travel to the Whitman Invitational that will be from September 20 to October 1.
