Plopper Tops Leaderboard at Spring Classic

PENDLETON, Ore. – Stephen Plopper's career-best round of 69 holds the individual lead on the opening day of the Northwest Conference men's Spring Classic on Saturday, giving Whitworth third place in a tightly-pack field at the Wildhorse Resort Golf Course.

Plopper's round of three-under gives him a one-stroke lead over Whitman's Martin Scott (-2, 70) and a two-stroke edge over Pirate teammate Jesse Salzwedel (-1, 71).

Pacific Lutheran leads a tightly-packed field of teams.  There are four teams within five strokes of each other at the top of the standings.  The team standings after the opening round are: PLU 299, Whitman 300, Whitworth 303, Puget Sound 304, Linfield 310, Willamette 313, George Fox 316, Pacific 333, Lewis & Clark 365.

Christian Boudreau (81) is tied for 26th place, Joey Degroff (82) is tied for 32nd and Saul Martinez (83) is tied for 36th.

The tournament concludes on Sunday.   The NWC Spring Classic counts 25% toward the final league standings.
