TACOMA, Wash. – It was a rough start to the spring golf season for the Whitworth men, who finished fourth at the Puget Sound Logger Invitational on Thursday and Friday at Fircrest Golf Course.
Host Puget Sound won its own tournament by five strokes over Pacific Lutheran. The final team scores were: UPS 307-306 – 613, PLU 309-309 – 618, North Idaho 317-313 – 630, Whitworth 315-328 – 643.
Jesse Salzwedel was the top Pirate individual player, finishing tied for nine with a final score of 77-79 – 156. Adam Bean of UPS was the individual medalist (76-75 – 151) on his home course, finishing one stroke ahead of Eli Bowen of NIC and Logger teammate Derek Wilson.
Whitworth won't have to wait long for a chance to turn things around. The Pirates are playing on Satuday and Sunday in the PLU Invitational at the Home Course in Dupont, Wash.
