SPOKANE, Wash. – Following another outstanding basketball season at Whitworth, senior Felix Friedt was named to a pair of All-Region teams today while fellow senior Idris Lasisi was selected to one of the all-star lists.
Friedt was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-West Region Second Team and the D3hoops.com All-West Region Third Team. Lasisi was also an NABC All-West Region Second Team honoree.
Friedt, who has also been named First Team All-Northwest Conference, First Team Academic All-American and a Jostens Award finalist this season, finished with 504 points, averaging 16.8 points per game. He also led the Pirates and ranked first in the Northwest Conference in rebounding average (8.7). Friedt devastated opponents by drawing fouls and making free throws. Not only was he second in the NWC in free throw percentage (83.3%), he made more free throws (200) than all but one other player in the league even attempted. Friedt led the conference with 15 double-doubles this season. His 1,130 career points ranks 13th on Whitworth's all-time scoring list.
Friedt's post-season was particularly impressive. In the five games that made up Whitworth's participation in the Northwest Conference tournament and the NCAA Division III tournament, Friedt averaged 20.0 points and 8.6 rebounds.
Friedt was named NWC Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week twice - first on December 6th and then on January 10th.
Lasisi scored 503 points this winter and also averaged 16.8 points per contest in his only season with the Pirates. Lasisi also earned First Team All-NWC honors. A fourth-year transfer from North Idaho College, Lasisi added 4.9 rebounds per game and led the team in steals (39). Lasisi scored a season-high 27 points in Whitworth's win at Whitman on Feb. 14 and finished with 25 points in the Bucs' game against nationally-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater on December 21st.
Like Friedt, Lasisi was very strong in the five post-season contests. He averaged 18.8 points and 6.6 rebounds in those five games, while making 41% of his three-point attempts.
Friedt and Lasisi led the Pirates to a 26-4 overall record and a third straight Northwest Conference title (15-1). Whitworth earned its sixth straight trip to the NCAA Division III tournament and made its fourth appearance in the Sweet 16.
