The Northwest Conference has recognized three Whitworth student-athletes in the initial NWC weekly awards for 2017-18.
Ian Kolste is the NWC Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week, while Rehn Reiley is the NWC Football Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week. Kayla Leland is the Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week.
Kolste led the Pirates' offensive output in last Saturday's 56-13 victory at Central College (Iowa). He completed 38 of 46 passes (82.6%) for 471 yards with seven touchdowns and no interceptions. His touchdown pass total is a career-high. Kolste only played the first 35 minutes of the game, directing the Bucs to touchdowns on seven consecutive possessions. Kolste has been selected for the honor four times in his career.
Reiley had another strong day kicking the ball at Central. He made all seven of his extra points and booted seven kickoffs for touchbacks. He averaged 33.4 yards per punt. The most dominating kicker in the NWC over the last three seasons, the NWC has chosen Reiley as the NWC Special Teams Player of the Week seven times since the 2015 season.
This week also marks the third time that Kolste and Reiley have been honored together. Kolste was the offensive player and Reiley was the defensive player last season on September 20th and also on November 1st.
Leland once again led the Pirate women at a cross country meet. She led Whitworth to a dominating team win over Lewis-Clark State (21-40). She was the fourth overall runner across the finish line, regardless of division. There were teams from Montana, Idaho, Eastern Washington and Gonzaga, along with Whitworth and LCSC. The NWC has selected Leland for this award four times over the last two seasons.
