SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth senior running back DJ Tripoli has been named to the 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Football Team for Division III.
Tripoli, a senior, carried a 3.93 grade point average into the fall semester. Tripoli is a kinesiology major from Burbank, California.
Tripoli has led the Pirates in rushing and touchdowns scored this season. He has run for 624 yards in 2013 with an average of 4.0 yards per carry. He has run for seven touchdowns and caught another to lead the Pirates with eight total touchdowns. He has 11 receptions for 124 yards and also leads the Bucs with 748 all-purpose yards.
The NCAA Div. III Academic All-District VIII teams are selected from players at schools in the Northwest, California, Texas and Iowa. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing. Whitworth nominated seven players in 2013, but only Tripoli selected to the final team. There were more than 120 nominees for the 25-player team.
This is the third year that the CoSIDA Academic All-District teams were broken down by division.
Tripoli is now eligible for selection to the 2013-14 Division III Academic All-America football team.
