SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth will recognize the 2012 NCAA Division III West Region Championship baseball team on Tuesday night during halftime of the men's basketball game as the team looks forward to another successful season in 2013.

The Pirates are ranked 8th in the Collegiate Baseball News preseason poll.  Click here for the entire poll.  Whitworth has never been nationally ranked in any preseason poll as an NCAA Division III member.

"We talked a lot this past offseason about complacency and our guys will be the first to tell you that they are not satisfied," said head coach Dan Ramsay.  "Their focus and effort this offseason has made that very apparent."

In 2012 the Pirates finished 31-16-1, reaching the NCAA Division III finals in Appleton, Wisconsin for the first time.  Whitworth finished in fifth place.

The team earned its first conference title since 1991 after they were picked sixth in the preseason NWC coaches poll.  The Bucs made their first post-season appearance since 1992 and then came back through the loser's bracket to defeat Trinity (Texas) twice in the West Region championship at McMinnville, Oregon.

The 31 victories broke the previous school record of 26 for a single season.

Tyler Pfeffer was named a First Team All-American by and a Second Team honoree by the American Baseball Coaches Association.  Head Coach Dan Ramsay was selected as the NCAA West Region Coach of the Year.

"I know that our returners are excited to see last year's graduates at the basketball game and the ceremony should provide some much deserved recognition for the accomplishments of our 2012 championship squad," Ramsay said.

Tuesday's men's basketall game begins at 8:00 pm.  General admission is only $5 for Tuesday's game.
