Pfeffer Named to ABCA All-America Team

APPLETON, Wis. -- Whitworth sophomore Tyler Pfeffer was introduced as a Second Team All-American when the 2012 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America Team was announced at the 2012 NCAA Divisioin III Baseball Banquet on Thursday night.

Pfeffer had previously been named a 2012 First Team All-American by D3baseball.com on Tuesday, becoming Whitworth's first First Team All-American in baseball since Dick Washburn was named one by the NAIA in 1965, a span of 47 years. 

Pfeffer was also previously selected as the D3baseball.com West Region Player of the Year last week, along with Dan Ramsay as the D3baseball.com West Region Coach of the Year.

 Pfeffer has batted .377 in 45 games, leading the Northwest Conference in home runs (12), doubles (19), RBIs (58), runs scored (46), earning First Team All-NWC honors.  Pfeffer hit his 12th home run of the season at the NCAA regional to move into a tie for fourth on Whitworth's single-season home run list.

Through the end of the regular season Pfeffer ranked 7th in NCAA Div. III in home runs, 10th in RBIs, 13th in slugging percentage and 4th in total bases.

Pfeffer has led Whitworth to its first-ever NCAA Division III World Series.  The Pirates are Appleton, Wisconsin where they are scheduled to take on top-ranked and defending national champion Marietta in a first round game on Friday at 5:45 pm (PDT).
