McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Nick Scourey kept Concordia off of the scoreboard long enough for Whitworth to rally for five runs in the seventh inning of a 5-1 win over the top-seeded Tornados at Linfield College on Friday afternoon in an elimination game of the NCAA Division III baseball tournament.

Scourey, making his first start on the mound since April 10, helped the Pirates improve to 28-14-1 and advance to play Trinity in Friday night's game at 7:00 pm.  If Whitworth can defeat Trinity, the Pirates would go to Saturday's championship game at 3:30 pm.

Concordia, which came into the regional ranked 12th, finish the season 37-11.  Click here for the official regional website.

Scourey allowed only one hit through the first seven innings and did not give up a run until Nick Kazole, who had the only other single in the third inning, hit a solo home run in the eighth.

Whitworth finally broke through against Concordia starting pitcher Colin Butschek in the seventh inning.  Joshua Davis led off with a walk and Erik Nikssarian beat out a bunt single.  Paul Miller was going to sacrifice but drew a walk from reliever Austin Rupert to load the bases.  Kevin Valerio then singled through the drawn in infield to plate the first two runs.  Nick Motsinger sacrificed Miller and Valerio over to second and third ahead of Gerhard Muelheims who drilled a double to left center for a 4-0 Pirate lead.  Landon Scott's two-out single drove in Muelheims.

Scourey walked a pair of betters in the ninth, but was able to finish the game to improve to 3-0 this season.  He allowed only two hits and walked four batters while striking out three in his second complete game victory.  He also went the distance in a 12-1 win over Central Washington in his previous start.

Butschek allowed only two runs on five hits in 6.0 official innings of work, but still fell to 2-1 this season.

Muelheims finished 2-3 with two RBIs for the Pirates, while Scott went 3-4 with one RBI.  Valerio's key hit was his only one of the game.
