December Bruchi’s/Whitworth Athletes of the
Junior guard Dustin McConnell and senior guard Lauren Picha have been selected by the Whitworth sports information staff as the Bruchi’s Athletes of the Month based on their performances during the month of December.
Dustin McConnell, Jr., G
Dustin McConnell led Whitworth in scoring and assists during the month of December. He averaged 12.4 points and 3.1 assists per game as the Pirates went 8-0 during the last month of 2012. He made 40% (10-25) of his three-point tries and 85% of his free throws. He scored a career-high 20 points in the Pirates’ win at Occidental on December 15th and had a career-high eight rebounds in a win over Puget Sound on December 8th.
Lauren Picha, Sr., G
Lauren Picha led the team with an 11.0 points per game average over a five game span in December. Against Puget Sound, she shot .667 (6-9) percent from beyond the three-point line and finished the night with a season-high 18 points. Picha has recorded 20 assists in the five games and committed just nine turnovers during that time. When Whitworth hosted Pacific Lutheran, Picha finished the night with a career-high six rebounds, six assists and zero turnovers. She dished out a career-high eight assists in the Pirates’ win over Warner Pacific.
