Our Philosophy
As an integral and valued component of
the Whitworth University experience, the athletics program
represents and reflects Whitworth’s mission to educate the
mind and heart. Student athletes and coaches are committed to
success in the classroom and on the field of competition. Their
teams also contribute to the vitality of the campus and the larger
community.
Core values
Whitworth University’s mission is to prepare students to
honor God, follow Christ, and serve humanity. Coaches and players
are encouraged to integrate faith and learning in all aspects of
their lives and therefore approach competition with values of
honesty, fairness, respect and compassion for other
people.
The university is committed to supporting an excellent overall experience for student-athletes. Whitworth expects student-athletes to achieve academic and athletic success. Participation in athletics should support achievement in the classroom and other co-curricular activities. Likewise, Whitworth’s teams aspire to post winning seasons, to compete for conference championships, and to pursue regional and national recognition.
Building on a close partnership with Academic Affairs and Student Life, the Whitworth athletics program enriches the quality of life of the campus and the larger community. The university seeks to offer competitive events that attract students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the greater Spokane community. In all settings, Whitworth athletes and coaches strive to honor Whitworth University and its mission.
