Whitworth Cheer Squad

 

Whitworth University has a 14-16 member cheer squad. We cheer at home football and basketball games. The Whitworth cheer program includes dancing, tumbling, stunting, and cheerleading. Please contact Coach Megan with any questions. Go Pirates! 

Whitworth Cheer Tryouts 2013-14
April 19-20, 2013

Tryouts are open to all incoming or current Whitworth students. Incoming and current students are strongly encouraged to tryout this spring so they can attend summer camp if chosen for the squad. There will not be any tryouts in the fall.

Friday, April 19th 5:00-9:00pm will be a short introduction, a physical fitness test, and teaching of all tryout material (cheers/dances). Saturday, April 20th 10:00am-3:00pm activities will include a brief informal interview and the actual tryout. Saturday, each prospective cheerleader will perform a cheer, a dance, three jumps, a flexibility test and any tumbling skills. One jump must be a toe touch, and tumbling is optional (preferred) with a round off-back hand spring the minimum skill allowed. Both days are required, as well as the attached form. Please bring the below form to tryouts on Friday, April 20th. All tryouts are held in Graves Gym near the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

The 2013-2014 Whitworth Cheer Squad will be announced shortly after tryouts are finished. Results will be posted not later than 3pm on Saturday.

A team meeting will be held directly after the 2013-2014 team is announced. Topics will include sizing uniforms, shoes, and warm-ups, spring fundraising, and camp dates. Please be prepared to pay up to $300 for cheer shoes, warm-ups, briefs, pom poms, and camp clothes at the team meeting. Everyone will be purchasing everything this year as we will be ordering all new clothing, including different shoes and warm-ups.

Camp Information
Whitworth University’s 2013-2014 Cheer Squad will be attending UCA’s College Spirit 3-Day Camp in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Camp dates are August 14th-16th, and all squad members are required to attend, NO exceptions.

The squad will be required to be back in Spokane on August 1st to begin preparing for camp and football season.

Cheer Coach
Megan Ibey, in her third year as the Pirates' Cheer Coach, graduated from the University of Montana where she cheered for five years. She has an extensive background in cheerleading including high school, all-star, college and instructing through UCA. "Cheerleading has always been a big part of my life and I'm excited that I will get to share that passion with the squad this year." Megan graduated with a degree in Education and moved to Spokane. She loves coaching the Whitworth Cheer Squad and being a part of such a great community at Whitworth University.
