|Title:||Asst. AD - Facilities / Asst. TF / Asst. XC|
Joey VanHoomissen enters his fourth season on the Pirates track and field coaching staff and his first season as the head assistant coach for both cross country and track and field. He will add the responsibility of working closely with head coach Toby Schwarz with recruiting.
After spending the 2011 season as a volunteer assistant working with the discus and hammer throwers, he was elevated to the primary discus coach where he was instrumental in helping coach three national qualifiers to the 2011 NCAA Outdoor National Championships. He played a key role in the development of Carter Comito, who completed his career as school and conference record holder, three time NCAA champion, and the nation’s (NCAA DIII) best throw by over 20 feet. VanHoomissen coached Comito to a repeat Northwest Conference Field Athlete of the Meet titles in 2012 and 2013. He was named the 2013 NCAA DIII West Region Men's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year.
VanHoomissen was an All-American javelin thrower and All-NWC discus thrower for the Pirates before graduating in 2009. VanHoomissen is also Whitworth's Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities, Game Management, and Intramurals.
