Heather Bowman, one of the greatest women's basketball players in Spokane's history and the all-time leading scorer in the West Coast Conference, is in her third season as an assistant coach at Whitworth in 2013-14.
Bowman set the career scoring record at Gonzaga University and also broke the West Coast Conference mark with 2,165 points. She was a four-time First Team All-WCC selection and ranks among the top-three all-time among Bulldog players in games played, field goals made, field goal percentage, free throws made and rebounds. Bowman was instrumental in Gonzaga reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2009 and the Sweet 16 in 2010. She was the WCC Newcomer of the Year during her freshman season (2007) and the league's Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2008.
Bowman went to Gonzaga following a successful career at Lewis & Clark High School in Spokane. As a senior Bowman led the Tigers to the 2006 4A state championship, earning MVP of the state tournament. LCHS finished third at the state tournament during her junior season. Bowman was named Second Team All-State as a junior and First Team All-State as a senior. She also played on the prestigious Spokane Stars Navy AAU team for three years.
