SPOKANE, Wash. – Three Whitworth Pirates received weekly honors from the Northwest Conference for performances from last weekend. Moi Diaz (offense) and Jesus Nunez (defense) swept the NWC Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week awards, while Rehn Reiley is the NWC Football Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week.
Diaz (Sr., McMinnville, Ore.) opened the weekend with two goals in a 3-0 Whitworth win over Linfield. Then, he provided two assists against the third-best scoring defense in the Northwest Conference in Whitworth's 2-1 takedown of Willamette.
Nunez (So., Turlock, Calif.) opened the weekend with a Saturday shutout of Linfield, saving six Wildcat shots to earn his first clean sheet of the season. He followed up the shutout with five saves in a 2-1 Whitworth win over Willamette.
Reiley's (Jr., Moses Lake, Wash.) field goal in the first half proved to be the margin of victory at PLU, but it was his punting that was the difference. The Pirates held the Lutes to 14 points despite getting outgained on offense because they won the field position battle. Rehn punted six times for an average of over 45 yards. Four of his six punts ended at, or inside, the PLU 20 yard line.
